RENAUD AUGUSTE-DORMEUIL | HANGAR Y: EXHIBITION

27 March 2023

Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil exhibited his work I Will Keep A Light Burning at the opening of Hangar Y, the new major immersive art space in the outskirts of Paris.

One thousand candles reproducing the starry sky are installed in the gardens of Hangar Y. This performance by artist Renaud-Auguste Dormeuil, reactivated for the opening exhibition, opens a breach in time: it represents the sky as it will be visible in a hundred years' time. As the evening progresses, candles are lit, gradually revealing this constellation of the future, materializing the invisible and creating signs of a future yet to be invented.

The performance I Will Keep A Light Burning presents an installation of a thousand candles reproducing the starry night sky as it will be visible in a hundred years' time. Lit one by one throughout the evening, the candles gradually reveal the stars in the sky, forming a celestial map of the constellations. This projection into the future reveals a sky that none of us will ever be able to see. By revealing a hidden cartography of reality, I Will Keep A Light Burning gives substance to the invisible, to the lines of tomorrow's sky. It succeeds in bringing together the three dimensions of time: the past, by continuing the tradition of sky mapping; the present, through this ephemeral installation; and the future, the very subject of the installation.
