Hannah De Corte was born in 1988 and is based in Brussels. In 2019, she completed her doctoral thesis in art and art sciences (supported by the FRS-FNRS) on raw, unfinished canvas as an aesthetic and iconological means.
In the work of Hannah De Corte, the canvas is no longer just a base; it is elevated to the status of medium and becomes a mode of expression. The organic aspect appears in the foreground. It is a way to compose and a source of optical effects. From the fabric, Hannah De Corte questions the material constitution of an image.
She has lectured at the Institute of Fine Arts in New York (US), the INHA in Paris (FR), the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (NL) and the STUK Museum in Leuven (BE). Her work has been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum (OGR) in Turin (IT), at the Saint André Abbey-Contemporary Art Center CAC in Meymac (FR), at the BAC workshop in Leuven (BE) and, in Brussels, at the Penthouse Art Residency, the Médiatine, the Fashion and Lace Museum and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. She is also a member of the Muesli artists' collective, alongside Louis Darcel and João Freitas.
