ICONS: HELL'O

23 March - 18 May 2024
Overview

In a landscape where eyes wander, enigmatic figures emerge, icons that captivate and question.

These chimerical creatures embody the duality of a society hungry for symbols but in search of deeper meaning. Without claiming to rival the great masters, these false idols, born of a mixture of audacity and subversion, defy established conventions. Their protean nature fascinates, destabilises and transports the spectator into an elusive world. They are based on a clever deception, a trompe-l'œil that questions the very essence of contemporary worship.

The cult devoted to these ephemeral idols, though fake, reveals an insatiable thirst for three-dimensional representations of the unattainable. They are the embodiment of modern illusions. Because, in this over-mediatised age, idolatry is easily seduced by chimeras, fed by false images and cleverly orchestrated promotions.

But are they, in reality, so different from us, humans seeking to fill the emptiness of our lives? Hidden behind their masks, these false icons play on our expectations, projections and hopes. They reflect our desperate search for reference points, while underlining the absurdity of our quest.

For its second exhibition, the Project Room at Galerie La Patinoire Royale Bach, the space dedicated to emerging artists, presents the exhibition ICONS by the artist duo Hell'O. Founded by Jérôme Meynen, born in 1982, and Antoine Detaille, born in 1980, both Brussels-based artists since its creation in 2008, the multidisciplinary collective works with painting, drawing, murals, graphic design and more. Hell'O's artistic universe explores the boundaries between man and nature, highlighting the complex and sometimes ambiguous interactions between human beings and their environment.
